Being with God vs doing for God
Perhaps the greatest gift I could give you as your pastor is a slowed down, deep walk with Jesus. Western Christianity has a reputation of being shallow, a mile wide and an inch deep.
We see this play out in society as confusion has run rampant and darkness is no longer hidden but boldly in front of our faces.
If society is in decay, the salt of the earth, the Church, has not done her job.
We’ve been comfortably meeting behind closed doors, in the 4 walls, having great meetings and conferences but not making a dent in culture.
You might ask how a slowed down spirituality and a deeper walk with Jesus might impact the Church’s role in culture, it has everything to do with it. When push comes to shove we simply have not possessed what we need to present the counter culture of the Kingdom to a world spiraling out of control.
As the people of God we do for God out of being with God. Jesus spent long hours alone on a mountain or in the wilderness BEING with God after a long day of ministry. He was prioritizing BEING with God over doing for God.
If the Son of God needed to prioritize time with His Father (lots of it!) how much more do we?
May I invite you on a life long journey learning what it means to slow down, be still in His presence, practice silence, rest, and deep communion with Jesus?
This isn’t learned in an 8 week course alone, it is learned through practice, through error, through patience. It’s an act of spiritual warfare as we step out of the chaos, neck break speed of culture, to actually hear from Heaven and prioritize time with our Father.
It’s learning the Jesus method, doing only those things we see our Father do, and saying only those things we hear Him say. How might culture be impacted by a company of people who live like that?
Humbly,
Pastor Reggie
